Bucks hosting 16 players at free-agent mini camp

The Milwaukee Bucks are holding a closed, free-agent mini camp on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to league sources.

These sessions are aimed at evaluating players the team could potentially invite to training camp or identify as candidates to join the Wisconsin Herd, the team's G League affiliate. The crop of 16 players includes numerous players with NBA experience, including nine former first-round picks and two lottery selections.

Thabeet (No. 2 in 2009) and Trey Burke (No. 9 in 2013) are the two players who were taken in the lottery of the NBA draft. Thabeet played just 224 games for four teams in five seasons but has been out of the NBA since 2014. Burke, an all-rookie first team selection in 2014 who averaged 24.8 minutes per game in his first four seasons, did not sign an extension to his rookie contract.

Brooks started strong in 2011-'12, earning a second-team spot on the all-rookie team in 2012, but only played two more seasons before moving his career overseas.

Douglas, a 6-foot-2 guard, has lasted the longest in the NBA among the 16 participants. He's appeared in 394 games with seven teams over eight seasons since being drafted 29th overall in 2009.

The list of mini camp participants includes three players who played their collegiate basketball at Kentucky — Goodwin, Harrison and Young.

Bakumanya, while relatively unknown, is a player of particular interest to the Bucks. Last week, the Wisconsin Herd selected the 20-year-old, 6-foot-11 center from the Democratic Republic of the Congo with their second pick in the G League expansion draft.
