And the Doctor said…

He thinks my woes are not serious.

Symptoms match underactive thyroid, but also several match stress, so he wants me to have a blood test (booked Thursday) and to do some exercise in the mean time. At least a month’s worth before he sees me again.

I told him I was thinking about going to start running again and he said great, start tonight (“because if you wait til tomorrow, there’s always another tomorrow”), 20 minutes to begin with for 4 days a week and that’s just to start.

He said if nothing changes in a month he’ll put me on the pill. Not keen on messing with my hormones after the depo screwed with my system, so I best get off my arse and start running, really…

  1. Sounds very sensible. And there’s lots of research that shows that exercise helps us fight stress.
    Go for it!!

  2. Isn’t being angry at the stupid world normal? Glad to hear the docs are taking things seriously. You probably need to learn to switch off from work – it’s not as easy at it seems but trust me, it can be done. When I walk out of the office I barely give work a second thought.

    • Same here. Boy, does it annoy some people too…

Easier said than done when your office is in your hallway, and you’re battling deadlines from last November because you get 2-3hrs a day to work as opposed to the 8 you’re used to.

  3. I hope that the exercise helps! I know that stress has done terrible things to my attitude in the past, and it sucks.

Have you thought of doing weight-training? You get to scream and grunt all you like while you’re at it! :P
