Kyrie trade latest proof of 'NBA 2K' cover curse

Andrew Joseph

The NFL's Madden cover curse is well documented. Nearly every year, the player on the cover will have a down season or get injured. That was certainly the case for Madden 17's Rob Gronkowski last season. Well, the NBA might have a video game curse of its own, and not many fans even notice it exists.

While the cover athlete on the popular NBA 2K series hasn't been subjected to Madden-like curses, it is a signal that a major change of scenery is on the horizon.

Since NBA 2K14, every player with a solo spot on the cover has changed teams within two seasons. Kyrie Irving's trade to the Celtics served as the latest proof of a 2K cover curse. Take a look:

The NBA 2K16 game was a trio cover of James Harden, Steph Curry and Anthony Davis, but there is a definite trend when it comes to the solo covers.
