Hotel amenities can make your stay feel at home or can really put the wow factor into a stay. On a recent stay we were surprised to find a hotel amenity that made us feel right at home and may just be one of our all time favorite hotel amenities.

Using points and miles has given us the opportunity to experience some great hotel amenities that we would have not otherwise experienced. In the past, we’ve stayed in over the bungalows with decks that enter right into the water. That really gave us the wow factor.

Another time, we’ve checked in and were upgraded to a two bedroom suite overlooking the ocean with a full kitchen including all the appliances of home. That made us feel a little more like home and not a hotel room.

And there was one time we were upgraded to a suite with a balcony so big, they had to put a couch on it just to fill it up.

One Of All Time Favorite Amenities

During our recent stay, we reserved a suite in advance using Hyatt Diamond confirmed upgrade certificates but didn’t expect what we found. Maybe a small kitchenette for sure, like the one below which is functional and great for a long weekend trip.

Hotel Mini Bar

But what we found was a even better. Not one, but two refrigerators and one of them was a wine refrigerator! Of course we had to stock it, we couldn’t let it just sit there empty and all. So we picked up some cold ones, a few bottles and some diet cokes to get us through the long weekend and we felt almost like home.

Bottom Line

Hotel amenities like over water bungalow decks, blackout shades, and full kitchens are great, but sometimes its the small things that just make the stay feel right.

What’s the best hotel amenity you’ve experienced? What hotel amenity do you think isn’t offered now that would be a great addition with minimal effort or added cost to a hotel?

  1. Limo ride back to the airport .. once complimentary, and the other time the driver zoomed through rush hour when we told him we had mistaken the flight to be an hour late.

  2. Majordomo service in Mexico and Butler service in England are my 2 favorites. A close second is how some hotels now offer grocery service!

  3. No snark here; I’m serious. I most appreciate a fast, efficient check in process. Some details I I may: When I check in, it is usually following a long flight and I’m tired. After identifying myself with passport and credit card I want to be moving to the room in under a minute. For me, this is the wrong time for gushy thanks for my business, endless prattle about new bonuses and their various up-sell programs. Some other time perhaps, but not at check in. That also includes no games of twenty questions. If I’ve already answered the question during the reservations process, I don’t want to hear it again at the desk. If I need to know about club access or breakfast time, put it on paper and slip it into my folio. As for in in-room amenities, beyond crisp, clean and with plenty of clean water, I don’t much care. I don’t care about branded cosmetics or the sheet’s threat count. For me, it is all about efficient presentation of the basics. Remember, I did not come to city “X” to admire and rate a hotel room. It is either work or play, both generally best done outside the hotel room. Thanks.
