Like Minds Brewing announces new beer program and bottle releases

Good City Brewing releases a beer made to go with the Milwaukee Film Festival.

Like Minds Brewing, 823 E. Hamilton St., announced a new beer program that begins Saturday with the release of Cherry Blueberry, a sour saison made with Door County cherries and Michigan blueberries and aged for 18 months.

Cherry Blueberry costs $25 a bottle.

Like Minds also will release A. Nouveau, a blend of sour saisons aged for 16 months and six months. It costs $15 a bottle.

In a news release on Facebook, the brewery announced it would release small batches by bottle on Saturdays. Beers will be limited to one case for each customer. The parking lot and patio will be available for customer bottle shares. 

More releases will be held on Sept. 2, 9, 16 and 23. The list is on the Like Minds Facebook page.

Wednesday: Black Husky Brewing joins with the Milwaukee Beer Society to host Beers for Barks — Dog Days of Summer from 6 to 9 p.m. at the brewery, 909 E. Locust St. There will be a $5 suggested donation at the door, with additional contributions for beer and merchandise from Milwaukee Beer Society and Black Husky. All proceeds will directly benefit Rescue Gang, according to the event page on Facebook.

Thursday through Saturday: PetSkull Brewing Co., a 50-seat brewery with a name that is simultaneously edgy, silly and slightly scary, opens for its first weekend in Manitowoc. Owner Paul Hoffman said the brewery is named for an inspired night of drinking at a friend's house. The friend had a skull on the table and the rest is a new brewery. 

Friday: The West Milwaukee Lions and Kegel's Inn, 5901 W. National Ave., host what they're calling "Milwaukee's First Oktoberfest" starting at 4 p.m. The restaurant will use S. 59th St. as a beer garden with live music, stein-holding contests, hammerschlagen and Kegel's fish fry. The night closes at 11 p.m. The festivities continue from noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 at the door.

Saturday-Sunday: Hart Park goes to the pups with Bark 'N Brew, a two day event for dog owners and beer enthusiasts from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Dogs can participate in competitions while humans drink beers from Lagunitas, Good City and Founders. Admission is free and a portion of food and beverage sales will benefit Friends of MADACC (Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission). See the event page on Facebook.

Saturday: Palomino, 2491 S. Superior St., dishes up barbecue to go with a Knob Creek barrel-aged beer release from Metropolitan Brewing from 5 to 9 p.m.

Saturday: Company Brewing, 735 E. Center St., started this concept three years ago and each time makes it work. Locals should harvest backyard hops and bring them to Company for a brew session. Doors open at 1 p.m. Hops are added at 7 p.m. A donation of hops is not essential, but those who contribute receive a free Company Brewing glass and beer tokens to try the beer when it's complete in three weeks, according to the event page on Facebook.

Saturday: Not beer; root beer. The City of Glendale hosts Root Beer Bash from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Richard E. Maslowski Community Park, 2200 W. Bender Road. Events open with a walk/run at 8 a.m.; root beer Olympics at 10 a.m.; food and activity booths at 10 a.m.; and live music at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. The root beer is by Sprecher. 

Saturday: Feel like a road trip? The Potosi Brewfest kicks off at 1 p.m. They pour until 4 p.m. at Holiday Gardens, 101 Brewery Hollow Road, in Potosi. Tickets are $45 and are available at Eventbrite.com.

Sunday: Solemn Oath is featured in Sugar Maple's brewery series from 4 to 10 p.m. at the craft beer bar, 441 E. Lincoln Ave. It's a chance to meet founder John Barley and the Solemn Oath crew and follow that with beer, skateboards, food and music, according to the event page on Facebook. The class costs $15 and includes five beer samples.

Monday: Story Hill BKC, 5100 W. Blue Mound Road, hosts Bar Bites Beer Bash starting at 6 p.m. Foods will be paired with brews from participating breweries include Bell's, Door County, Surly, New Glarus, Lakefront, Abita, Hinterland, O'so, Deschutes, Uinta and Central Waters. Tuesday: Goose Island sets up beer school at ABV Social, 11200 W. Burleigh St., Wauwatosa. Admission is $25 and includes Goose Island sour beers, the Sour Sisters: Lolita, Halia, Madame Rose, Gillian and Juliet. Call (414) 837-6290 or email info@abvsocial.com for reservations. Sept. 2: Good City Brewing, 2108 N. Farwell Ave., welcomes the return of Film Fest Lager, an Octoberfest brewed in collaboration with Milwaukee Film. It will be available on tap and in cans as part of the official Milwaukee Film Festival Program Book Release party from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to the event page on Facebook.

Sept. 9: Delafield Brewhaus, 3832 Hillside Drive, Delafield, rolls out the barrel of 2017 Oktoberfest with a polka party from 4 to 8 p.m. The ceremonial tapping of the Oktoberfest keg begins at 5:30 p.m. 

Sept. 9: Erv's Mug, 130 W. Ryan Road, Oak Creek, celebrates Oktoberfest as Ervtoberfest with a beer festival. Look for 70 craft beers and a German-inspired buffet from 5 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $40.

Sept. 9: The East Troy Railroad and Black Point Estate host a Beer Tasting Train starting at 5 p.m. Black Point Estate and Gardens is a Wisconsin Historical Society Museum on Geneva Lake, originally built by Conrad Seipp, ​a Chicago beer baron, in 1888. ​The event is limited to the first 50 registered participants. Tickets are $65.

Sept. 14: Good City Brewing opens its Good City Hall for events in September starting with a performance from Chicken Wire Empire at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15.92. The brewery follows that with its first beer dinner in the hall and first taste of the next  Good City barrel-aged series featuring Santé, a saison aged in Chardonnay barrels. Tickets are $89.12. 

Sept. 16: All Things Pabst Pub Crawl Scavenger Hunt from Fun Beer Tours. The pub crawl is a way to to learn new things and places on the Pabst Brewery complex. Teams of two to six people depart in timed increments from Jackson's Blue Ribbon Pub, 1203 N. 10th St. Admission is $15 a person, according to the event page on Facebook.

Sept. 19: Great Lakes Brewfest features more than 450 breweries and cider makers from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at the Zoological Gardens, 2131 N. Main St., Racine. VIP tickets are $89 and get patrons in one hour earlier than general admission, which costs $50. Great Lakes Brewfest helps raise funds for the Racine Kilties Drum & Bugle Corps.

Sept. 23: The Blue Harbor Resort, 725 Blue Harbor Drive in Sheboygan, becomes beer headquarters for the craft beer festival. The VIP Beer Seminar and Culinary Pairings runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Grand Tasting begins at 1 p.m. and runs until 4 p.m. Tickets are $39 for general admission to the Grand Tasting; $75 for VIP.
