Three Oxnard men were arrested Monday after police said they found a loaded shotgun and handgun.

Oxnard police said the arrests came after they tried to pull a vehicle over for a traffic violation and a pursuit ensued around 3 p.m.

At one point, one of the passengers ran from the vehicle, authorities said. Police said the passenger threw a loaded handgun into an alley.

Police arrested the passenger, Victor Aguirre, 20, on suspicion of being a prohibited person, a gang member, in possession of a loaded firearm. Aguirre also faces numerous other charges, police said.

Police said they also searched the vehicle and found a loaded shotgun in the trunk.

Police arrested the vehicle's driver, Arturo Avalos, 20, on suspicion of failing to stop, suspicion of possession of a loaded shotgun and probation violations. A second passenger, 19, was arrested for misdemeanor warrants, police said.

The arrests were made by the department's gang unit in the area of Kamala and C streets, police said.
