62% of U.S. corn, 60% of soybeans in good to excellent shape

The USDA’s national condition rating improved slightly for soybeans last week, while corn held. Growing conditions in key parts of the United States continue to vary widely and ratings for corn and soybeans remain below a year ago, close to their lowest levels in several years.

As of Sunday, 76% of U.S. corn is at the dough making stage and 29% has dented, both behind their respective five year averages. 62% of this year’s crop is in good to excellent condition, unchanged on the week, but with 1% moving from good to excellent.

97% of soybeans are blooming, matching the usual pace, and 87% are at the pod setting stage, a little bit ahead of normal. 60% of U.S. beans are rated good to excellent, up 1% from last week.

58% of spring wheat is harvested, compared to 51% on average, and 34% of the crop is called good to excellent, with another 42% in poor to very poor condition.

47% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent shape, steady with a week ago.
