But who is likely to want to start service between Philly and London? I would think Virgin would be the only plausible possibility, and I wouldn’t think that would likely be too successful for them.
Wouldn’t BA probably get this PHL-London route?
May be the last nice thing Horton does for BA.
offering PHL-LHR is same as offering nothing. except VS, not one in the right mind would consider opening up PHL-LHR against the new US/AA and BA. that’s just suicide.
hope the european regulators are smart enough to see through this stupidity.
@tassojunior – American and British Airways have a joint business venture across the Atlantic. The Europeans are precisely concerned about Philadelphia because AA/BA would control all of the PHL-LHR traffic, so they are asked to give up LHR slots to allow someone else to fly the route. The route would not go to BA because they would then be the only carrier offering that service.
I think it’s a bit strange of a concern, PHL-LHR is a pretty low value route to British Airways. And there is competition.. from Newark which has several carriers offering service.
But if that’s all it takes to buy off the European regulators then so be it, I guess they figure..
