'Coach Jeff Sommer Memorial Highway' dedication ceremony to be held in Estero
A public dedication ceremony for the "Coach Jeff Sommer Memorial Highway" section of U.S. 41 in Estero will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5.
The dedication ceremony will take place on the northeast corner of Coconut Road and U.S. 41. Attendees are asked to park in the parking lot near Coconut Point Mall’s Ethan Allen store. There will be buses to shuttle people to and from the dedication site, according to the village of Estero.
Estero District 6 Councilmember Nick Batos will serve as Master of Ceremonies introducing Rep. Ray Rodrigues, Estero High School Principal Clayton Simmons, Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott and Estero Mayor Jim Boesch, who will read a special proclamation.

Sue Sommer and her family will then make their comments and unveil the sign, according to Estero.
The memorial highway extends from U.S. 41 and Coconut Road north to Corkscrew Road.
Sommer served as the Estero High School athletic director and cross-country coach.
He led the school to eight cross-country state championships prior to his death in May 2015. He was 58.
