Ruidoso building activity in July rebounded from a brief dip last month.

The increase is tied to residential construction with four new single-family homes, a dozen reroofing jobs, plus some carports and garages.

Although fewer permits were issued at 64 compared to 93 in June, the value of the work was placed at $2,315,505.48, generating $18,583.12 in fees, while June’s value dropped to $1.585 million, generating fees of $18,696. Only one new housing start was registered in June.

The July figures look more like May, which hit $2.33 million, but required nearly 20 more permits to meet that mark. Those permits generated $21,790 in fees.

July also compared well to the same month in 2016, when values were $2.26 million, with four new housing starts.

The garage-carport work this year accounted for $115,304 in value for four projects, and reroofing for $128,512 covering 12 projects.

Contractors handling the new homes are Moebus Construction with a structure valued at $250,000; Chandler Building Inc, with a structure valued at $419,139; Structure Specialists LLC with a home valued at $228,866; and Bear Creek Log Homes with a house valued at $279,954.

Besides construction in the village, the building division handles permits and inspections in designated area of the unincorporated areas of Lincoln County. Year-to-date, the village’s share of the $126,788 collected for 567 building permits fees is $84,239.72 and the county’s portion is $42,548.54.

Over seven months, the village is 45 permits ahead of 2016, when 522 were issued through July.
