Woman arrested on suspicion of DUI, causing 5-car crash in North Naples

Deputies arrested a woman they said drove under the influence and caused a five-car crash in North Naples on Tuesday afternoon.

Chelsea Godwin

Chelsea Godwin, 28, of Naples, faces a misdemeanor charge of DUI second offense and six misdemeanor counts of DUI with property damage. She also faces a charge of violating probation in a child neglect case.

The crash was reported about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 41 near 103rd Avenue North in the Naples Park neighborhood. When deputies got to the scene, they saw Godwin, who had driven a silver Hyundai passenger car, bleeding from a bump on the left side of her forehead, according to a Collier County Sheriff's Office arrest report.

Investigators found several small empty bottles of bourbon in Godwin's car, the report states. Godwin was taken to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries. A deputy went to the hospital to talk to her and perform sobriety tests, which she failed, according to the report.

Two other people suffered minor injuries in the crash, the report states.

After being cleared medically, Godwin was booked at the Naples Jail Center, with bail set at $13,500. She no longer was in custody Wednesday night.
