Prep volleyball: Naples wins preseason match over First Baptist

The Naples High School volleyball team beat First Baptist 2-0 on the first day of the Golden Eagle Preseason Classic at Naples on Tuesday.

Naples took the opening set 25-15 and the second 25-17.

Lily Grasso led the Golden Eagles with seven kills, four digs and two aces. Haley Bussell had three kills and two blocks, while Emma Loden finished with seven digs and two aces.

“It was a great chance for the players to work in different lineups and get the feel for what a match is like this season. Great starting point for our season,” Naples coach Rich Hubbard said.

Seacrest is at Naples on Thursday at 6 p.m.; First Baptist plays Community School at Naples on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

GOLDEN GATE 3, ST. JOHN NEUMANN 2: Golden Gate took the opening set 25-20, dropped the second 25-22, won the third 25-22, lost the fourth 25-15 and won the final 15-5.

Cassie Desir led the Titans with 13 kills and 15 digs. Delaney Groos added 10 kills and Bailee Raimer had nine kills. Emily Erickson finished with 29 assist and nine digs.

“Slow start but the girls kept with it and pulled one out in the final set. Everyone played well and got good experience that they needed going into the season and out of summer,” Golden Gate coach Anthony Santos said.

SEACREST 2, COMMUNITY SCHOOL 1: The Stingrays took the opening set 25-19, dropped the second 18-25 and won the final 15-11.

Seacrest is at Naples on Thursday at 6 p.m.; Community School plays First Baptist at Naples on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
