Tennessee has lost freshman wide receiver Jacquez Jones for the season with a knee injury.

UT coach Butch Jones made the announcement after Tuesday's football practice at Haslam Field. Jacquez Jones, who's 5-foot-10, 165 pounds, came to Tennessee as a 3-star prospect from Clearwater (Fla.) High. As a senior, he caught 57 passes for 1,004 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also rushed for 244 yards and four touchdowns.

"We expect him back for spring football," Butch Jones said.

In other matters, Butch Jones said redshirt sophomore tight end Eli Wolf was awarded a scholarship. Wolf was informed as he squared off against older brother Ethan in a circle of life drill.

"I was thinking about putting (Ethan) on his butt," Eli said. "The last thing I was thinking about was getting on scholarship. For the first five periods of practice, I was still wandering around. I was up in the stars. It was a surreal moment."

Butch Jones indicated the team will scrimmage Wednesday but wasn't clear about its exact nature.

"In my mind, I have a set amount of plays but we'll see how it goes," Jones said. "For us, we have to play football but we also have to play situational football in terms of overtime and coming out in one-minute, four-minute offense."

Butch Jones was more specific about a scrimmage objective.

"We need to establish who our playmakers are going to be on both sides of the ball," he said. "I have a better gauge on defense right now than I do on offense."

Butch Jones said freshman Shawn Shamburger is coming on at cornerback.

"He's gaining valuable repetitions," Jones said. "He's getting better and better and better."
