Weekly Recap: Week of June 24

weekly recapMonday: I thought this week was finally going to be the week I visit Maine to knock my states unvisited down to 24, but oh well.  I’ll make it there one of these days.  I flew into Boston and drove over to Springfield, MA.  I stayed at the Residence Inn West Springfield.  Dinner was down the street at Cal’s at the recommendation of the hotel.  At first we were afraid because the parking lot was packed, but there was just a party upstairs and the main dining room had no wait.  On Mondays they do a price fixe menu with an appetizer, entree, and dessert.  We were both happy with our meals.

Tuesday: Finished in Springfield and headed back to Boston for the balance of the week.  We checked into the Courtyard in Stoughton since downtown rates were ridiculous and the meetings were all over the city so being downtown wasn’t really an advantage.  Dinner was at La Scala.  It was suggested by the hotel and I agreed because I thought it was part of the SkyMiles dining program, but then when we arrived and it said credit cards not accepted I realized I need to learn how to read since La Storia was really the one on SkyMiles dining.  Since we heard good things about La Scala we ate there instead of venturing to earn more miles.  Dinner was pretty good and the place was packed which seems amazing to me as someone who stays away from places if they don’t take plastic because I never have cash.

Wednesday: I was going to join the Boston Hash House Harriers for their run, but since it was raining, dark, and I didn’t have my headlamp I decided to join my coworker for dinner at Not Your Average Joe’s instead.

Thursday: Meetings.  We got a suggestion for lobster rolls (my coworker was trying to make it up to me for not being able to get us meetings in Maine) so we headed to Tony’s Clam Shop in Quincy.  The lobster roll was quite good, but I wasn’t too impressed with the fried oysters.

Friday: Flew home on US Airways.  I love when non-stop flights actually work out.  I didn’t get upgraded either way, but I’m still just a lowly Silver with them.
