Timbers hit back at LA Galaxy 5 months after meme

Andrew Joseph

Back in March, the Portland Timbers defeated the LA Galaxy in a somewhat controversial 1-0 match. And despite the loss, the Galaxy's social team obliterated the Timbers with an all-time rendition of the "Shooting Stars" meme.

It was so good that MLS wasn't too pleased that the Galaxy's social team showed up another club like that.

Well, MLS may not like the Portland Timbers' official rebuttal either, but we certainly do. The Timbers dominated the Galaxy, 3-1, on Sunday at Providence Park. And come Monday, the Timbers' official Twitter account tweeted this magnificent scientific parody about the LA Galaxy's decline.

Like, whoa. The meme from March (below) must have really left a mark.

But the Timbers deserve credit for the comeback. The video was so great that it's almost fine that they waited five months to issue the response. To be fair, they were obviously waiting to unleash the video when the two clubs met again, giving the social team plenty of time to focus on production quality … and the jokes.

There was plenty of shade about Steven Gerrard's underwhelming 18-month stint in MLS. And it wouldn't be a proper LA Galaxy troll video without pointing out that the club doesn't even play in Los Angeles.

Overall, great work, Timbers. We'll gladly welcome an MLS meme war.
