White Sox's Hawk Harrelson will 'never step foot' at Wrigley Field again
White Sox broadcaster Ken "Hawk" Harrelson, who will retire next year in his 34th and final season as a play-by-play announcer, said on Sunday that he’ll “never go back to Wrigley Field again.”
“Worst press box, worst booths for television. It’s a joke. It really is,” Harrelson told reporters of the Cubs' legendary Wrigley Field. “I will never step foot in that ballpark again. Ever.”
Harrelson -- who has been working mostly a road broadcasting schedule for the past two years -- announced his 2018 retirement in May, and he is in the process of working out a schedule for the games he will call in his final season. One thing is certain: The Cubs are not in his plans.
“We’ve got three games over at their place (next season), and I told (White Sox chairman) Jerry (Reinsdorf)..., ‘I’m not going back to Wrigley Field,'" Harrelson said while the White Sox played a road series at Boston's Fenway Park. He said, ‘Well, you’ve got three games there next year.’ I said, ‘Well, we’re going to get rid of those.’”
