I have to admit, on the surface, flying a dry airline appeals to Points, Miles & Martinis as much as the middle guillotine seat does. Ever since Saudia joined SkyTeam I’ve been intrigued not only by their route map with easy access to the Middle East, but equally by their award availability which can be easily found with an Expert Flyer search.
Thinking about some of my past flights in Business Class, I haven’t even taken advantage of complimentary wine and spirits (gasp – I know) for good reason. Drinking on a plane has a dehydration effect and prevents the best sleep possible. In the past, I’ve flown Air France to Tahiti and only drink a bit of water to take down a Tylenol PM. So when I actually think about it, the “dry” part of Saudia wouldn’t really bother me on an over night flight.
After Rapid Travel Chai’s extensive review of the Saudia 777-200 Business Class experience it appears to be a great Business Class experience.
Instead of a champagne cheers try the tea and a date instead.
Bottom Line
Saudia appears to be a welcome addition to SkyTeam.

I agree. I never drink when flying, whether I am paying for it or the airline (well I am always paying for it – its just whether I forked out the money in the fare or in the aisle). I have seen so many inebriated fliers that I would welcome a ‘dry’ policy onboard.
If I was able to fly them in biz class, I probably would. I wouldn’t mind not drinking on a flight.
I don’t drink period, so if the miles are there, I’d happily fly them.
The only time I ever drank on the plane was when champagne was offered in business or first class. Just one drink. If I’m in economy, I never drink… If I can get a transit visa to KSA, then I’d totally fly Saudia!
…yea, unless you are Jewish. Then the Saudia experience isn’t so wonderful.
