Charles Oakley agrees to Madison Square Garden ban as part of dismissal deal

Charles Oakley and New York prosecutors agreed to a deal in court Friday, part of which bars the former Knicks enforcer from Madison Square Garden -- the site of the scuffle that led to his arrest in February -- for one year.

Oakley accepted an adjournment in contemplation of dismissal, which will lead the charges to be dropped if there are no new arrests over the next six months, the Manhattan District Attorney said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports. Oakley also agreed to a one-year trespass order that makes MSG off limits.

Oakley was with charged with four misdemeanors (three counts of assault and one count of trespassing) after an altercation with MSG security guards during a Knicks-Los Angeles Clippers game on Feb. 8.

"The justice system is better utilized for those awaiting trial,” Alex Spiro, Oakley’s lawyer, said. 

February's incident that resulted in Oakley being led away in handcuffs was the most notable episode of his very public falling out with Knicks owner James Dolan.
