Strawberry Mojitos are a go-to summertime cocktail for me! When I’m hosting a little get together or a full blown party, these are one of the cocktails I love serving. I mean, whenever the muddler is involved, you know you’re showing off a little bit… as you should!

Despite my desire to impress my friends with my muddling abilities, these fruity mojitos are so very easy to make. The actual reason I love muddling the strawberries and mint leaves here is because then you get the real, natural flavors of those ingredients, as opposed to the artificial flavors you’d get from a flavored simple syrup or liqueur.

There is a little homemade simple syrup here that enhances the sweetness of the strawberries, but it’s just enough to do that – enhance. I can’t stand overly sweet drinks, which is why the simple syrup here is more complimentary than overpowering. There’s also just enough rum to detect (and enjoy) without it being too strong. However, if it’s just not cutting it, go ahead and make a double. I won’t judge!

What You’ll Need:

  • Sugar – This and the water is all you need to make your own simple syrup.
  • Water
  • Strawberries – Use fresh, not frozen strawberries for the best results.
  • Mint Leaves – Use fresh mint leaves that don’t have and wilted spots or discoloration.
  • Rum – For this recipe, light rum is best. Try to use a good quality rum to really enhance the overall quality of the drink.
  • Lime Juice – FRESH LIME JUICE ONLY! This mojito is made with fresh berries and fresh mint leaves, so be sure to not use lime juice from a plastic bottle.
  • Sparkling Water – Club soda also work.

How to Make Strawberry Mojitos

For more detailed instructions, scroll to the bottom of this post.

Make the simple syrup. Combine the sugar and water in a pot over medium heat. Once the sugar’s dissolved, let it cool.

Muddle. Muddle the strawberries, mint leaves, and lime juice at the bottom of a glass.

Sweeten it. Once muddled, add the simple syrup to the glass.

Add the rest of the ingredients. Pour in the rum, ice cubes, and sparkling water. Garnish, then enjoy!

Common Questions

Can I use vodka instead? Sure thing! If you like vodka more than rum, go for it. Mixology purists will say it’s not really a mojito, but it’s your kitchen – live your life!

Can I make a pitcher of Strawberry Mojitos? Yes, but you may still want to muddle the mint, lime, and berries individually so all of the glasses have the same amount of fruity, fresh flavor.

Strawberry Mojitos

You’re gonna want to make a full pitcher of this!
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (118 ml) water
  • 3 pieces whole strawberries, hulled and sliced into quarters (so you’ll have about 12 of strawberry)
  • Handful of mint leaves, plus more garnishing
  • 4 ounces (113 ml) light rum, divided
  • Juice of half a lime
  • Sparkling water or club soda

Instructions

  • In a small pot, make simple syrup by combining sugar and water together and melting over medium heat until all the sugar has dissolved. Set aside and let cool.
  • In four 10-ounce glasses, place 3 strawberry pieces in each glass and add 2-3 mint leaves on top. Juice about a tsp. of lime juice into each glass. Using the back of a spoon, gently mull the strawberries, mint, and lime juice together until the strawberries and mint begin to macerate. At this time, put 1-2 tbsp of the cooled simple syrup into the glass, add the rum (evenly in each glass), ice cubes, then fill the rest of the glass with sparkling water or club soda. Garnish with more mint leaves and a slice of lime.

Notes

You’ll have quite a bit of simple syrup leftover. I keep it in a jar because you can use it for numerous recipes and it’s always nice to have it around and you don’t have to keep whipping up new batches of simple syrup every time a recipe calls for it. Also, if you prefer more or less rum, tweak it to your taste! You can also make this non-alcoholic by omitting the rum :)
