Chargers coach Anthony Lynn says he isn't blocking Philip Rivers, Antonio Gates from attending LaDainian Tomlinson's Hall of Fame ceremony

Los Angeles Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said Monday he was not blocking quarterback Philip Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates from attending former teammate LaDainian Tomlinson’s Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Saturday, as a Sporting News report had indicated.

Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers (17) talks to tight end Antonio Gates (85) during the third quarter against the Tennessee Titans at Qualcomm Stadium.

"I've talked to Philip. I've talked to Antonio. I've even talked to LT. We're all on the same page," Lynn said. " At the end of the day, we're going to make the best decision for our football team, and that's it."

Lynn said no call had been made about the players' plans, adding that it would be a joint decision.

On Saturday, the Chargers will be in their new home at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., for the first time this training camp in a joint practice with the Rams. The session is only accessible for season-ticket and wait-list members.

With the practice taking place at the same time as the Hall of Fame ceremony in Canton, Ohio, Rivers and Gates would be unable attend both. Another one of Tomlinson's teammates, Drew Brees, plans to fly to the enshrinement after the New Orleans Saints’ practice, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Tomlinson played nine seasons with Rivers and Gates from 2001-09 on the then-San Diego Chargers, including on three playoff teams.

The other members of the 2017 Hall of Fame class are Jerry Jones, Jason Taylor, Morten Andersen, Terrell Davis and Kenny Easley.
