Naples maintenance worker accused of stealing jewelry from Bay Colony Drive homes

A former maintenance worker arrested Thursday could face more charges after he was accused of stealing jewelry valued at thousands of dollars from homes in North Naples, a Collier County Sheriff's Office arrest report states.

Mariano Rodriguez, 35, of Naples, faces felony charges of grand theft and dealing in stolen property, according to the arrest report.  

Between May 12 and July 21, Rodriguez allegedly completed 20 transactions at a local pawnshop.

He allegedly stole high-end jewelry from homes on Bay Colony Drive while working as a maintenance employee for a water treatment company, the report states. 

The Sheriff's Office is contacting other residents on Bay Colony Drive to check if they have had jewelry stolen from them between May and July.

On July 24, a Bay Colony Drive resident reported that his Cartier watch, valued at $15,000, was missing from his bathroom counter. He added that employees were doing maintenance work in his unit on July 20, the report states.

Rodriguez allegedly pawned the Cartier watch for $350 on July 21, the same day he was accused of time card fraud and was fired, according to the report. 

On July 28, deputies contacted another resident whose unit received maintenance work in May. Authorities discovered that three jewelry pieces Rodriguez pawned belonged to the owner.

The items included a 1958 monogram ring, a gold wedding ring and a TAG Heuer watch, all worth more than $300, the report states.
