Perdue sees no sign Mexico to buy S.A. corn/beans
Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue tells reporters he’s gotten no confirmation from Mexico’s ag secretary about speculation that Mexico plans to buy corn and soybeans from South America because of political tensions with the U.S., “I did not get any indication that they are considering that.”
Perdue told reporters this morning from the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico that the competitiveness of US grain and bean growers and the logistics of rail and water continue to give the U.S. a competitive advantage with Mexico. Perdue was getting ready to see a U.S. ship “coming directly from New Orleans, directly south of the Yucatan peninsula, that is utilized in their pork production down here.”
Perdue is in Mexico for bilateral meetings with Mexico’s Ag Secretary Jose Calzada Roviros ahead of U.S. renegotiation of NAFTA. Perdue says the U.S. and Mexico have a great history, relationship and supply chains that they don’t want to become disrupted.
