Transferring Hyatt points – flexibility for orphan points

Check out our Top Rewards Cards to boost your points earning and travel more!

My last Hyatt stay activity was about 2 years ago. I had a modest balance gathering dust so when a friend needed to top off his account for an award I was happy to help.

Turns out Hyatt is very accommodating. They have a Combine Points online form that can be mailed or faxed. No restriction on amount of points, only limit is that each member can only be involved in “one point combining transaction (transferring or receiving of points) once every 30 days.”

I filled out the form, sent on to my friend, he signed and sent it in, and the points were transferred out right away.

Nice to liquidate orphan points, nice that Hyatt has such a customer-friendly policy.

Is the transfer only permitted if the receiving member is short of points for an award?

@Simon – no restrictions that I can find. My friend will book eventually but was not an immediate need and did not need to claim to need them for anything specific. Seems a genuinely customer friendly policy.

This could be one of the easiest ways to transfer the value of Chase UR points to a non-spouse, assuming the recipient wants Hyatt points. You would first transfer the UR Points to Hyatt points, then combine the Hyatt points.

…not nice that you have to mail or fax the form in.

But everything else is great!
Thanks for the post!
