TULAROSA – The Tularosa Police Department continues their investigation of the death of a 3-month-old baby at a residence on Pilar Chavez Road Wednesday morning, Tularosa Police Chief Chuck Wood said.

Wood said TPD officers responded to the home around 10:55 a.m. after the Otero County Sheriff’s Office dispatch received a 911 call of a baby girl that was not breathing.

Wood said upon arrival he initiated CPR on the baby then the Bent Volunteer Fire Department chief arrived to assist Tularosa police officers.

Wood and the Bent fire chief transported the baby south towards Alamogordo where they met an American Medical Response personnel and ambulance then AMR personnel took over treatment of the baby, Wood said.

He said AMR transported the infant to Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center’s emergency room for further treatment.

Wood said GCRMC emergency staff attempted to resuscitate the infant but the baby was declared deceased by a medical doctor.

“The Tularosa Police Department is investigating a death of an infant,” Wood said Wednesday afternoon. “We’re still gathering facts. It’s early enough in the investigation.

“There’s a lot to be done. Right now, we’re actually waiting for the return of a search warrant to continue with our next phase of the investigation.”

He said TPD officers and investigators are still gathering evidence from the scene.
