Hiker rescued after falling near Matilija Dam

Crews rescued a hiker who fell and broke her ankle Tuesday near Matilija Dam, officials said.

The Ventura County Fire Department responded just before 3 p.m. to the area in the 700 block of South Matilija Road. 

The hiker, described as a woman in her mid 20s, was injured when she fell about 25 feet into an embankment, authorities said. 

She was hoisted out of the area using a rope system then was taken to Ventura County County Medical Center in Ventura, officials said.
