Two men arrested in break-in at Sievers' Bonita Springs home

Salyers

Lee County authorities arrested two Cape Coral men in connection with a recent burglary at the Bonita Springs home of Mark and Dr. Teresa Sievers.

Deputies arrested Robert John Salyers, 29, on Saturday after he was found driving in Fort Myers with a box labeled with Mark Sievers’ name and address. They arrested Alexander Kevin Cesario, also 29, on Monday after an interview with Salyers.

Fort Myers police officers initially stopped Salyers’ white Ford Explorer on Saturday after he made an illegal right turn on a red light onto Cleveland Avenue, according to an arrest report. When officers approached the vehicle, Salyers and a passenger were breathing heavy and acting nervous.

The officers then spotted a box in the back seat labeled with Mark Sievers’ name and address on Jarvis Road in Bonita Springs, reports said.

Teresa Sievers

The officers recognized Sievers’ name from news reports. Mark Sievers is facing a first-degree murder charge, accused of orchestrating the killing of his wife, Teresa, in June 2015.

The officers alerted Lee County sheriff’s investigators, who questioned Salyers about the box and the recent break-in at the Sieverses’ home. Salyers told them he had been at the home with Cesario to install a pool cover.

Surveillance video showed Cesario's black Kia Soul was at the Sievers home for nearly three hours July 8, reports said.

Investigators searched the box in Salyers' SUV and found computer equipment, tools, sporting gear and toys reported missing from the Sieverses' home.

Salyers, of the 1000 block of Southeast 11th Street, and Cesario, of the 1700 block of Northeast Second Avenue, were arrested on one count each of burglary and grand theft.

Lee County deputies began investigating the break-in at the Sieverses’ home July 12 after a representative for the law firm representing Mark Sievers was called to the home and found the front door open and a doggy door kicked in.

There also had been reports of a possible break-in at the Sieverses' home in May.
