The Horrifying Letter Found in Ariel Castro's House
Ariel Castro, the man accused of holding three girls in captivity for more than a decade, penned an apparent suicide letter in 2004 admitting to his crimes, CBS reports.
An unnamed law enforcement source says they found a handwritten letter in Castro’s home recounting his past and detailing his crimes. "I don't know why I kept looking for another," the letter reads, possibly referring to then 14-year-old Gina DeJesus who went missing in 2004. “I already had 2 in my possession.”
According to CBS’ source, the letter includes details from Castro’s life, saying his parents abused him as a child and that his uncle raped him. Castro’s letter also recounts details from when he took each of his victims—Amanda Berry, 27, Gina DeJesus, 23, and Michelle Knight, 32, who all escaped Monday. Additionally, the note says to give all his money and belongings to his victims.
Thursday morning, a judge arraigned Castro in a Municipal Court, where he was charged on four counts of kidnapping and rape and one count of kidnapping.
"Today the situation has turned, your honor: Mr. Castro stands before you a captive, in captivity, a prisoner, and the women are free," said Brian Murphy, the assistant prosecutor.
ABC 19 Action News’ Scott Taylor obtained a copy of Castro’s apparent suicide note, and Tweeted excerpts from it last night. He has not yet published the letter in full, but here are the excerpts:
