If his roster spot wasn’t already in jeopardy, Lucky Whitehead may have sealed the deal.  We have breaking news today that a warrant has been issued for Whitehead’s arrest for a shoplifting charge in Virginia from June. Lucky also failed to appear in court on July 6th for the charges.

In the state of Virginia, petty larceny is charged when the amount in question is less than $200. The incident occurred in Prince William County, which is part of Northern VA just outside of Washington D.C.

The Cowboys return man and reserve receiver last year, Whitehead didn’t look promising for the 2017 roster after Dallas drafted Ryan Switzer. The events in Virginia apparently were not news to the team, though, according to one source.

Whether or not the team was aware if Lucky’s failure to appear in court, or that this warrant was coming, is another matter. In the end, it may be irrelevant if Whitehead wasn’t going to make the roster anyway.

If nothing else, it’s yet another legal issue in an offseason filled with P.R. problems for the Cowboys. Whitehead joins Ezekiel Elliott (alleged domestic violence, reckless driving), Nolan Carroll (DWI arrest), Damien Wilson (assault charges), David Irving (PED suspension), and Jourdan Lewis (domestic violence charges) as being in the news for the wrong reasons.

For now, according to Mike Fisher, Lucky is with the team in training camp. We’ll see how much longer that lasts.
