Governor tours flood-damaged Cassville

Two days after declaring a state of emergency in 17 counties damaged by flooding, Gov. Scott Walker and Wisconsin National Guard Adj. Gen. Donald Dunbar toured a southwestern Wisconsin community hit by as much as 10 inches of rain.

In the Grant County village of Cassville, at least five homes were destroyed and 10 houses were hit with major damage by flooding that occurred Friday night and Saturday morning when a large amount of rain fell in a matter of hours.

Walker on Sunday also visited the Cassville Fire Station to thank first responders. All emergency shelters have closed except for Cassville High School, where two families are staying.

Preliminary infrastructure damage estimates for the July 19-20 storms in La Crosse, Jackson, Monroe, Richland and Trempealeau counties is $3 million with the bulk in Monroe County, $1.4 million, and La Crosse County, $1 million. A total of 40 homes and 22 businesses were damaged.

Updated infrastructure damage estimates for roads and bridges for the July 11-12 storm in southeastern Wisconsin are almost $8.5 million, including $3.9 million in Racine County, $2.7 million in Walworth County and $1.7 million in Kenosha County.

The July 11-12 storm affected 3,827 homes with four homes destroyed and 81 sustaining major damage, plus 37 businesses damaged in Kenosha, Racine, Walworth and Polk counties.
