Girl stabs intruder who entered through dog door and assaulted sister, police say
Police say a preteen girl stabbed an intruder who crawled through a doggy door to get inside before assaulting the girl and her preteen sister.
Kristen Anderson, 34, is accused of attacking the sisters, ages 10 and 12, and smearing her blood on one of the girls who had stabbed her in the chest, according to police accounts.
The girls ran from the home with their two dogs and called their father for help, records show.
Anderson was being held Thursday in a Maricopa County jail on suspicion of aggravated assault on a minor, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of second-degree burglary, according to the Sheriff's Office website.
Police received a call around 10 a.m. Tuesday from residents of a home near 19th Avenue and Happy Valley Road where a woman was wandering in their backyard and appeared to be covered in blood.
According to court documents, she was knocking on the windows and leaving blood smears. Police say the woman hopped the 911 caller's fence and drove away.
About five minutes later, the father of the two girls called police and reported that his daughters said they were home alone when a woman crawled through the doggy door, documents stated.
The statement said the woman, who police later identified as Anderson, grabbed one of the girls and threw her on the couch. That's when the other girl stabbed the woman once in the chest with a knife.
Police said Anderson rubbed her hands in her own blood, smeared it on her own face and said, "Ah, blood." Police say she then rubbed her blood on the face, legs and hair of one of the girls.
Both girls were able to run with their two dogs to a neighbor's house.
When officers arrived, Anderson was walking down the street yelling, "You can't control me," according to the court documents.
Anderson was taken to a hospital for treatment of a stab wound and to receive a psychiatric evaluation.
While at the hospital, police said Anderson kicked a nurse in the stomach with both legs as the nurse tried to sedate her for a CT scan, officials said.
Her next court hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. July 26 in the Maricopa County Superior Court building.
