Great Lakes Cheese is building a new packaging plant in Wausau.

Great Lakes Cheese says it’s building a new $55 million cheese packaging plant in Wausau that will create at least 125 jobs.

The company already employs about 200 people in Wausau.

As part of an agreement with city officials, the company will receive $5.9 million in tax incentives to help offset the cost of the new plant. The company has agreed to donate the property where its current plant is located to the city.

Construction is expected to begin in July, Great Lakes Cheese said in a statement.

The Ohio-based company has nine plants in five states.
