Milwaukee Brewing Co. will host a Pop-Up Beer Garden in Kenosha in August.

This beer garden thing is catching on.

Milwaukee Brewing Co. will host a Pop-Up Beer Garden in downtown Kenosha for two weekends and change. The Pop-Up launches with a firkin tapping at 4 p.m. Aug. 10 near the beach house at Simmons Island, 5001 Simmons Island Drive.

The beer garden will be open from 4 to 11 p.m. Aug. 10-11 and Aug. 17-18 and from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Aug. 12-13 and Aug. 19-20.

In tandem with Downtown Kenosha Inc., the Pop-Up Beer Garden will feature a food truck takeover on Thursdays; yoga classes on the beach with celebratory beermosas to follow; and yappy hour for dog lovers. The brewery is working with Kenosha bands for live music daily.

Visitors also can look for drum circles; volleyball, bags and other lawn games; and a Friday night fish fry. Admission is free.

The beer garden also has partnered with two of Kenosha's craft breweries. Rustic Road Brewery will provide guest beers the first weekend and Public Craft Brewing beers will be on tap during the second weekend.

And there's a plan for a public beer school. It's similar to one provided to Milwaukee Brewing employees, said Will Van Weelden, chief operating officer and chief financial officer for the brewery.

The school will be held on Aug. 19.

The event started "with the idea of a pop-up beer garden," Weelden said. The brewery wanted something that would be family-friendly (there's a playground nearby) and close to restaurants and businesses. The beer garden and its events will be held rain or shine.
