UW basketball assistant Howard Moore's uncle killed in Chicago shooting

MADISON – The spate of deadly shootings in Chicago has touched the Wisconsin men’s basketball program.

UW assistant Howard Moore, born and raised in Chicago, on Wednesday reported via Twitter he had lost an uncle. 

“Please pray for my family as my uncle, Leroy, was caught in crossfire and killed in Chicago last night. I’m stunned and devastated right now.”

According to Chicago Police, Leroy Moore was shot shortly after leaving a store Tuesday night. Leroy Moore was 70.

Ten people reportedly were killed and 37 wounded in shootings in Chicago last weekend.

There were reportedly 3,550 shooting incidents and 762 murders in Chicago in 2016.

Howard Moore, a ’95 graduate of UW, is in his second stint on the Badgers basketball staff.
