Four Points Chicago Downtown/Magnificent Mile

One block west of North Michigan Avenue, the major shopping district and upscale retail section of Chicago called the ‘Magnificent Mile’ is Four Points Chicago Downtown-Magnificent Mile. The hotel is next to Trader Joe’s supermarket for access to food and drink when a restaurant is not in your meal plans.

My plane arrived from San Francisco the night before winter storm Rocky reached Chicago. The hotel is about four short blocks from the CTA Grand red line metro station.

Microwave and refrigerator below the shelf. The microwave is quite handy since Trader Joe’s is around the corner for frozen foods.

Large soap and shampoo dispensers in shower/tub.

The hotel elevators were abnormally slow. That is my primary complaint about this stay. Also I had an interior view with other room windows close by.

The indoor swimming pool was closed during my stay.

The workout room seemed small for a hotel with 226 guest rooms.

Interior courtyard being covered by snow during winter storm Rocky.

The hotel interiors were nice, the room was clean and the stay was pretty much what I expected for a Four Points.

One upscale feature of the Four points were Dale Chihuly glass sculptures in the lobby.

Four Points Chicago Downtown/Magnificent Mile is a good location just north of the Chicago River near North Michigan Avenue in what is known as the Magnificent Mile retail section of the city. This is a fine location in Chicago for tourists near many other large hotels like InterContinental Chicago, Marriott Chicago, The Peninsula, Crowne Plaza The Avenue, Omni Chicago, Conrad Chicago and other major city hotels around North Michigan Avenue.

SPG Category 4 hotel award = 10,000 points.

This hotel stay was a deal for $95 on a Best Rate Guarantee where I earned 2,000 bonus points in addition to the regular points earned for the Chicago hotel stay.

I may have caught them on an off day, but I had a so-so experience with the front desk.

The agent was not professional, more interested in talking with her friend than helping me out.

Other than that the hotel was fine. But unless the price difference is substantial there are a number of other hotels I’d prefer in the area.
