Air France / KLM / Air Europa offer heavily discounted Flying Blue awards for certain routes throughout the year. With the discounted awards and a transfer from SPG’s program, you can redeem only 20,000 Starpoints for a one-way award in Business Class from North American to Europe. In the past, we’ve shared how you can redeem only 20,000 Starpoints for a one-way or 40,000 Starpoints for a round-trip Business Class ticket to Europe.

Below is an update on availability for the current discounted routes that are available for travel through April 30, 2013.

  • Go to Airfrance.us to search award availability

2) Link to apply for Starwood Preferred Guest card from American Express

  • You can earn bonus points after your first purchase and more after you spend $5,000 within the first 6 months of Cardmembership
  • Then transfer 20,000 Starpoints to a Flying Blue account
  • A 5,000 point bonus will be awarded for transfers in increments of 20,000 (this is a 25% bonus on the transfer)

Route Specific Discounts In Business From North America

The following routes are discounted for award travel booked in Business Class for the designated route specific dates noted below. There is still time to book and complete your award travel before the end of this period. If you don’t have enough points for this period, check back periodically for updates on the discounted awards. The discounted Business Class awards require 50,000 miles plus taxes and fees for a round-trip ticket. Below is an availability snapshot at the time of this post.

1) New York To / From Europe On Air France

This route offers discounted awards through 4/30/13 for bookings made by 4/28/13.

Based on an award search for 1 Business Class ticket there appears to be availability on New York to Europe route at the discounted award price with Air France.

2) Toronto To / From Europe On Air France

This route offers discounted awards through 4/30/13 for bookings made by 4/28/13.

Based on an award search for 1 Business Class ticket there appears to be availability on Toronto to Europe route at the discounted award price with Air France.

3) Chicago To / From Europe On KLM

This route offers discounted awards through 6/30/13 for bookings made by 5/27/13.

Based on an award search for 1 Business Class ticket there DOES NOT appear to be availability on Chicago to Europe route at the discounted award price with KLM.

4) Montreal To / From Europe On Air France

This route offers discounted awards through 6/30/13 for bookings made by 5/27/13.

Based on an award search for 1 Business Class ticket there DOES NOT appear to be availability on Montreal to Europe route at the discounted award price with Air France.

5) New York To / From Europe On Air Europa

This route offers discounted awards through 5/27/13 for bookings made by 6/15/13.

Based on an award search for 1 Business Class ticket there appears to be availability on New York to Europe route at the discounted award price with Air France connecting through Paris.

Bottom Line

Using this method you can transfer 20,000 Starpoints to Flying Blue and redeem only 25,000 miles for a one-way award to Europe from North America. This is great for those seeking one-way awards. Pay close attention to the taxes and fees on the award tickets. Some of the options have higher taxes and fees than others.

  1. Hi Minos – I’m sorry, where did you get the $1,000 figure for a one-way flight?

    The fees are clearly illustrated in the picture above to be about ~$470 range. While clearly not as good as 50k + ~$20 in change, it depends on the person to see value in this discounted award pricing option.
