Pug Life Bag Made with Duck Tape

You may not know this already, but we live the “pug life” around here. I’ve had pugs almost consistently since 2002, with just a short break when my last pug Roxie passed away in 2016.

This January I got another pug named Otto, and you can see his crazy antics on his Instagram account. Because every pug born in 2016 needs their own Instagram (it’s what all the kids are doing!):

As a celebration of our pug life, Steve made me this Duck Tape bag! He designed a pug graphic to create the image on the bag, and I’ve provided that below for you as well.

If you live the “pug life” or know someone who does, you’re going to want to make this bag. It makes a perfect gift idea and I can guarantee that any pug lover would carry it proudly. It’s made with Duck Tape and assembling it is EASY!

Inexpensive free grocery bag with a roll of Aqua Duck Tape

This shopping bag almost went into the Goodwill pile. Oh the horror!! I always keep these free bags around to decorate but Steve doesn’t know this. He does now! I love recycling these old bags into new things.

Craft mat with aqua Duck Tape and a craft knife

Measure your bag and cut strips of Aqua Duck Tape to go the length of the bag.

Begin covering the bag with Duck Tape from top to bottom, overlapping slightly as you work across the front of the bag. When you reach one end, you can cut the excess (if there is any) off carefully with a craft knife or scissors.

Finish the bag “base” by taping around the edges and taping up the sides with Black Duck Tape. This gives it a finished look.

Pug face template

Print out the Pug Face template. You don’t have to print it in color, but the printout shows you the colors used for each portion of the face. You’ll see why you get two faces and various parts separately . . .

The head itself is beige. You’ll cut the head out as shown above.

Place Duck Tape down on the craft mat as shown (slightly overlapping), then place the face on the top of the Duck Tape and cut around it using the craft knife.

Peel up the excess and you’re left with a sticker that is the base for the face.

Peel up the sticker and place on the bag. You’re going to do that for the rest of the parts on the pug face – basically making stickers that you can peel off the craft mat and place on the face. You’ll do the ears, rest of the face, eyes, nose, and tongue.

The rest of the facial details are added with a black sharpie. Finish the bag with the lettering.

You’ll print out two copies of the Pug Life words template. Then you’ll cut them once out of the Black Duck Tape and once out of the White Duck Tape.

This will give you stickers to spell “pug life” on the bag and give the white letters a black shadow behind them. You don’t have to do this; just a fancy touch Steve thought would look nice!
