During my recent visit to Shanghai, this was the property that I was most looking forward to visiting. Once the highest hotel in the world, and only consisting of about 170 rooms, the Park Hyatt is atop the Shanghai Financial Centre. I had used a suite upgrade, and as I was staying a Saturday night the rate was pretty reasonable.

I took the subway to the closest station to the Park Hyatt and after exiting walked for about 10 minutes to the Park Hyatt. The entrance to the hotel is at the rear – away from the main road.

The entrance is understated but as you approach the doors you get an idea of what the property is going to be like. An employee came forward, confirmed that I wanted to check-in and escorted me to the lifts – through a stunning lobby:

The lobby is on 87 (with the restaurant on 91) – just 50 seconds in the lift and I was at Reception:

My room was not ready yet, so the Reception staff found me a table in the cafe behind the Reception desk whilst housekeeping finished it off. They arranged for a free coffee and Perrier, whilst I waited. It was a spectacurly clear day so the view towards the Bund was stunning:

After about 10 minutes the room was ready and I was given the specially printed key packet for the room and escorted to the suite:

Located on the 83rd floor I had a view downstream of the river:

The Diamond Amenity consisted of a bottle of red wine and a 6″ strawberry cake – which was lovely:

The room itself was a proper two room suite with a separate sitting and bedroom area and a huge bathroom. In addition there was a 1/2 bathroom just off the living room:

The bathroom had the widest range of free items I have seen in a very long time:

There was a high end audio system in the living room that I was able to connect to my phone and a very nice coffee machine:

Later that evening I ordered Room Service, which took no more than 10 minutes, but rather confusingly came to the front door near the bathroom!

The food was tasty and hot, I had some of the strawberry tart for desert.
Turndown appeared at around 7pm to make over the bed:

I slept well with no noise from inside or out, and woke to sunrise over Shanghai:

Breakfast is served on the 91st floor which requires you to go up to Reception, change lifts and then enter. Again, floor to ceiling stunning views of the Grand Hyatt and Pearl TV Tower awaited:

There was both a Western and Chinese Buffet again, and as the Park Hyatt has no Grand Club lounge, the breakfast was included:

The restaurant was not busy and the staff were attentive.

A great hotel, where I was glad that used my suite certificate to upgrade, and where despite the size the service is first rate.
