Painted Coasters from a Goodwill Find

Use your favorite craft paint to make these painted coasters! I got them at the Goodwill and gave them a makeover. So easy anyone can do it!

I think there are a few basic life principles. Things like “do what you love.” And “determination is everything.” However I’ve got one that might be a little bit more important, at least in my life . . . and you might agree . . . you can never have too much craft paint.

There’s nothing more pleasing to me than those little colorful bottles in the paint section of Michaels. I admit freely that I want ALL THE COLORS whether I need them or not!

This month for our Michaels Makers challenge we had to use craft paint in a project, and that’s about the easiest thing you could ever ask me to do. That’s how these painted coasters came about. I hope you enjoy my Goodwill revamp!

Painted Wood Coasters

Gather These Supplies

• Wood coasters
• Acrylic craft paint – I used Martha Stewart brand
• Scrapbook paper
• Paintbrush
• Pencil
• Scissors
• Mod Podge Hard Coat to seal (optional)

Some people have fabulous Goodwills in their area. Ours are pretty well picked through unless you’re a die hard that goes every day. However one thing they always have is coasters. ALWAYS. I got this wood set with a holder and glass inserts.

The next thing to do was pick my craft paint color from Michaels. Just grab a bunch and choose later . . . that’s what I always say! Here are some beautiful colors I found. The Martha Stewart line is SO pretty!

Once you pick your paint, sand your coasters if needed and then paint. I painted the coasters themselves with a bright blue and the holder with a warm white.

If you are concerned about water, or extensive usage, paint your coasters with Mod Podge Hard Coat or something similar to seal.

Trace the inserts on the back of some scrapbook paper and cut out. My scrapbook paper had a gold foil design that looked amazing with the paint.

Then insert the paper backs into the painted coasters. Remember, mine came with glass so the paper was protected from getting wet!
