Broward Sheriff’s Office offers free shredding & prescription disposal

Free paper shredding and safe prescription disposal are offered by Broward Sheriff's Office exclusively for Broward residents.

Shred-A-Thon events are intended to avoid identity theft by shredding personal papers with private information.  The events also accept old unused prescription medications for safe disposal.  In fact, incentives are offered for turning in prescriptions. The reward is a $5 gift card, one per family while supplies last.

Events are offered occasionally, usually 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at different venues

Events in 2024 include:

  • Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oakland Park City Hall, Oakland Park City Hall, 3650 NE 12th Avenue, Oakland Park, Fl 33334.
  • Saturday, April 20, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lauderdale Lakes Multi-Purpose Center, 4350 NW 36th Street, Lauderdale Lakes, 33319.
  • Saturday, April 27, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parkland Equestrian Center, 8350 Ranch Road, Parkland, Fl 33067.
  • Saturday, May 11, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Kings Point, 7620 Nob Hill Road, Tamarac, FL 33321.

For shredding, you can drop off a maximum of two boxes per vehicle, with boxes up to 16-by-12-by-12 inches.

For information, phone 954-831-8902 or check the website schedule.

Free shredding is offered at Office Depot and Office Max in April 2024.
