Severe weather Wednesday night left thousands without power, and forced the postponement of the Summerfest Big Bang Fireworks until tonight.

As of 7 a.m., 2,601 people were without power, according to We Energies.

The National Weather Service said wind gusts reached 70 mph in some areas, and tornadoes were reported in Green County and Pierce County last night.

The Milwaukee area received about 1.7 inches of rainfall, according to the weather service.

Today's weather should be a much better match for Summerfest and the re-scheduled Big Bang, with the forecast calling for a largely dry, warm day.

The weather service said it will be humid with highs around 80 degrees. There is a chance that a line of fast-moving showers or thunderstorms will roll through towards evening, but if they do they'll be out of the way in a hurry.

The Summerfest Big Ban Fireworks are scheduled to go off at 9:30 p.m.
