DHS updates New Mexico's REAL ID Act extension

HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE – The Department of Homeland Security has approved a 33-day grace period for states operating under DHS REAL ID ACT limited extensions that was previously announced to expire on June 6, 2017, according to a Holloman Air Force Base’s website.

The state of New Mexico remains unchanged.

According to HAFB’s website, the following states are extended to July 10, 2017: Alaska, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia and Washington.

The following states and territories have been extended to Jan. 22, 2018: American Samoa, California, Guam, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Marianas, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Texas, Virgin Islands.

A variety of documents can be used to gain entry in lieu of state-issued licenses, the website indicates. Acceptable forms of identification include a U.S. passport, foreign passport with a temporary stamp, and identification cards issued by federal agencies, among others.

According to the website, non-compliant credentials may still be used for National Crime Information Center checks, but not for identity proofing. As a final measure, personnel can always be escorted on to the installation. Leadership has verified through U.S. Northern Command officials that the Trusted Traveler processes will not be affected.
