A proposal for a nine-screen movie theater at the new The Corners of Brookfield retail-residential development is scheduled for review next week by Town of Brookfield officials.

The town’s Plan Commission is expected to consider the theater plans at 7 p.m. Monday at Town Hall, 645 N. Janacek Road.

A theater would add a new dimension to The Corners, a “lifestyle” center that includes retailers such as high-end department store Von Maur, a Sendik’s Food Market, restaurants and 244 luxury apartments.

The development is between I-94 and W. Blue Mound Road, just east of S. Barker Road.

“Like many shopping and lifestyle centers today, we have been approached by a number of theater operators expressing interest in our development, which is a testament to the location,” Robert Gould, vice president of U.S. operations for developer  IM Properties, said in statement Friday.  "At this time, we are exploring how we may best accommodate a theater tenant that would provide another exciting entertainment option at The Corners. We do not have a designated theater tenant yet committed.”

Details on which movie theater operators are interested in locating at The Corners weren’t available.

Gould said in his statement that "It would be premature for me to share any other information prior to next week’s briefing to town officials.”

Construction began on The Corners, a 19-acre site where Marcus West Point Cinemas and other retail buildings once stood, in spring of 2015. The first stores there opened in April.

Other retailers still are being added. Outdoor gear and apparel retailer L.L. Bean is scheduled to open its first Wisconsin store there next Friday.

News of the theater proposal first was reported by Brookfield-Elm Grove Now, which is part of the USA TODAY-WISCONSIN Network.
