Jonathan Isaac, who played his sophomore high school season at Barron Collier before transferring, was taken by the Orlando Magic with the sixth overall pick in the NBA Draft on Thursday night in New York.

Isaac seemed thrilled to remain in Florida, joining a young, athletic team in Orlando.

"My first impression is that we're young and we just got younger," Isaac said in an interview with the Associated Press. "There's a lot of room for growth, and there's a lot of things to do to grow."

Isaac, a 6-foot-10 forward, played his lone collegiate season at Florida State. He averaged 12 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, helping the Seminoles go 26-9 and advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament. He shot 51 percent from the field.

After playing his sophomore year at Barron Collier, Isaac transferred to International School of Broward for his final two high school seasons. He then spent a year at IMG Academy in Bradenton, honing his skills for college, where he became an integral player for the Seminoles.

“He’s what I call a stat stuffer,” FSU coach Leonard Hamilton said in a phone interview earlier this week.  “Any part of the game, anything you need done, he’s going to do it.”

Isaac played a key role in FSU's lone tournament win, scoring 17 points, pulling down 10 rebounds and dishing out five assists in an 86-80 win over FGCU.

“He’s an extremely unselfish player, while also being extremely talented,” Hamilton said. “He’s also a very smart player who sees the game through a mature set of eyes.”

The versatile Isaac will need to get stronger in his transition to the NBA. However, his build and his game compares favorably to Kevin Durant as Isaac can create his own offense like the lean Golden State Warriors forward. Isaac has also drawn comparisons to New Orleans power forward Anthony Davis.

NBA: Naples native Jonathan Isaac of Florida State expected to go early in draft

There were reports that the Magic might take explosive point guard Dennis Smith with their first pick in the draft after the Boston Celtics took Jayson Tatum off the board with the third overall pick. But the Magic's revamped front office went with the longer and athletic Isaac.

"The dream has come true," Isaac said. "Now it's about getting to Orlando and focusing on how I can make the team better, how I can come in and be of assistance."

Isaac is the 12th player in FSU history to be selected in the first round.

Dave Cowens, drafted fourth by the Boston Celtics in 1970, remains FSU's highest first-round selection.

Point guards Markelle Fultz of Washington and Lonzo Ball of UCLA were the top two selections in the draft, going to the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers, respectively. Duke's Jayson Tatum was taken third by the Boston Celtics, followed by Kansas forward Josh Jackson at No. 4 by the Phoenix Suns. The Sacramento Kings took Kentucky point guard De'Aaron Fox with the fifth pick.
