Driver going wrong way on Interstate 41 was under the influence, sheriff's office says
A Milwaukee man faces one felony and two misdemeanor charges after authorities say he was driving the wrong way on Interstate 41 while under the influence.
Milwaukee County deputies responded to calls about 10 p.m. Tuesday reporting a car going southbound on the northbound lanes of the freeway at Silver Spring Drive. A deputy stopped Albert Payne, 58, north of W. Hampton Ave. by activating her emergency lights while driving directly at him.
By then, Payne was then driving at about 5 mph, authorities said.
He performed poorly on field sobriety tests and tested 0.09 on a preliminary breath test, according to the sheriff's office. The legal limit in the state is 0.08.
Payne faces a felony charge of second-degree recklessly endangering safety and misdemeanor charges of possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
