Duchess Kate wows in white lace — and a name tag — at Royal Ascot

You would think being one of the most photographed women in the world would exempt you from ever having to wear a name tag.

But in addition to a matching hat, Duchess Kate accessorized a high-necked, white lace dress with an identification badge for Day 1 of the Royal Ascot, the biggest event on the British horse-racing calendar, granting her access to the royal enclosure and box.

In case you absolutely had to see what was on her nametag: "HRH the Duchess of Cambridge."

The floral lace Alexander McQueen dress likely had some alterations to pass the Ascot dress code.

Kate and William, outfitted in the customary morning suit and top hat, make their way across the parade circle.

The official dress code dictates that dresses should be knee-length or longer, and be free of logos or other ghastly, bourgeoise branding. Spaghetti straps and halter necklines are off limits. And that hat must have a base of four inches. (Apparently, fascinators are acceptable for royal weddings but not for Ascot.)

Kate's dress would have fit right into the famous Ascot scene from 1964's My Fair Lady. (How do you do?) Though she was once a commoner before her marriage, we doubt Kate would have yelled at the horse to move its "bloomin' (expletive)."
