A 63-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed and killed by her adult son after a family scuffle in Laveen Sunday morning, authorities said.

At about 11 a.m., police responded to reports of domestic violence at a home near 43rd Avenue and Baseline Road, said Sgt. Alan Pfohl, a Phoenix police spokesman.

Police identified Olanzo Gomez, 42, as the suspect and took him into custody Sunday.

Upon arrival, the mother, Mercy Gomez, was found stabbed. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died from her injuries, police said.

Police booked Olanzo Gomez into jail one count of first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated assault.
