DJI is pretty much the only name in recreational drone production right now, kind of like how GoPro dominated the action cam scene for what felt like a century. Most of DJI’s products are controlled using the more traditional remote system. You’ve almost definitely used one before, so we’re not explaining anything new. But with the Spark, DJI’s changing things up a bit. Right away, you’ll notice the drone doesn’t look like DJI’s other products. It comes in more than one color, for one thing. For another, you’re not locked in to one way of controlling. You can use the remote, but the Spark also recognizes commands from a smartphone and actual gestures. Position the drone, take pictures, and call the drone back to you, all with a few simple hand movements. Programmable flight patterns allow you to capture professional quality footage and for longer more active shots, set the drone to ActiveTrack mode, where it’ll follow you on hikes, bike rides, races, or anything else that’ll cover a lot of ground. The Spark is definitely one of DJI’s more capable machines and we’re excited to get our hands on one.
