A Collier County woman and a 2-year-old girl were seriously injured Wednesday night when the car they were in struck a curb and then ran into a tree.

Stephanie Tompkins, 28, was driving west on Rattlesnake Hammock Road near Santa Barbara Boulevard around 8:30 p.m. when her Nissan Versa traveled across the center and outside lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The car hit a curb, drove onto the grassy median and struck a tree before entering a ditch, the FHP reported.

Tompkins was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers. The 2-year-old, Emilia Maria Ontano, was transported to NCH North Naples hospital. Both were wearing seatbelts.

The crash is not believed to be alcohol related.
