Woman found dead in Milwaukee when police check for child abuse suspect

A woman was found dead Wednesday in a home on Milwaukee's northwest side where police had gone to check for a child abuse suspect.

A 49-year-old man, who is suspected of previously striking a 5-year-old boy, was arrested later by Milwaukee police in Racine County, according to a Milwaukee Police Department news release.

The man was believed to be armed with a gun when police went to the home in the 4700 block of W. Brentwood Ave. about 1 p.m., according to the release,

Officers with the department's Tactical Enforcement Unit and crisis negotiators also responded to the home, where police entered and found the woman dead.

Her death is being investigated as a homicide, according to the release, and no further information was available .
