Arizona Department of Public Safety tweeted this photo from the scene of a fiery crash involving two commerical trucks and another vehicle on Interstate 10 northwest of Tucson on Monday afternoon.

A fiery crash involving two commercial trucks and another vehicle shut down Interstate 10 in both directions for about an hour northwest of Tucson late Monday afternoon and continued to snarl traffic into early evening, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.

The closure was about one mile northwest of Pinal Park Road, near Red Rock.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety, in a tweet posted Monday night, described the accident as a "fiery cross-over crash'' that injured three people who were taken to hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately available Monday night.

The agency tweeted out photos showing what appeared to be one burned semi-truck.

ADOT initially tweeted about 4:45 p.m., that only the eastbound lanes were closed, but a short time later said the interstate was closed in both directions.

Just before 6 p.m., one of the I-10 westbound lanes had reopened, but eastbound traffic was being forced to exit at Red Rock and continue using the access road to Marana, ADOT said.

The westbound lanes all were reopened by about 7:30 p.m., and shortly before 8 p.m., eastbound traffic again was allowed to move around the crash scene, ADOT said.

Details on the accident were not immediately available and it was not known how long the highway would be shut.
